AMASS

The goal of the AMASS (Autonomous Maritime Surveillance System) project is to develop an automated oversight system that is capable of monitoring critical points of maritime areas. Its goal is to decrease the number of illegal immigrants, to limit the smuggling of arms, drugs, or other dangerous materials. It is primarily being developed for the needs of the European Union, but in practical terms it can be used anywhere in the world.

This camera system is designed so as not to require service. It allows the sending of warning reports (so-called alarms) after it detects an unusual situation, with the warning containing an up-dated video sequence from the area in question. Operators in the relevant dispatching center evaluate the situation based on the information delivered by the automated system and decide on the further procedure (e.g., sending a contingent of guards to the given area). The AMASS project began in March 2008 under the umbrella of the Instituto Canario de Ciencias Marinas (ICCM) organization and Univerzidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. HSF spol. s r.o. is participating in its realization by developing and implementing software. For further information: www.amass-project.eu.
